The Best Vapes for Clouds in 2023 Are:
- Geekvape B100
- Voopoo DRAG M100S Mod
- Voopoo Argus XT Mod
- Vaporesso LUXE XR Max
Geekvape B100
Best for Beginners
Features We Love
Starting Line: Easy for a total beginner to master
Awesome A-Lock: Physical lock-switch prevents pocket firings
Smarty Pants: Smart mode prevents accidentally setting too high a wattage
Sub-ohming can be a little intimidating to newcomers. Whereas MTL kits are usually marketed towards newbies, DTL kits usually assume a certain level of experience from the user, which can be offputting.
The Geekvape B100 Kit is a refreshingly simple sub-ohm kit that’s both easy to use and loaded with features that prevent you from making common greenhorn mistakes.
The uniquely shaped but highly ergonomic pod kit takes a single 18650 battery to operate and can deliver up to 100W out power output, though neither of the P Series Coils is quite capable of handling that maximum output.
The kit allows you to set your wattage manually, but the helpful Smart mode will prevent you from setting a wattage that’s high enough to burn your selected coil, eliminating the dry-burn issues which new vapers often encounter when sub-ohming.
The A-Lock switch on the side also makes it impossible to accidentally fire your kit in your pocket, a really useful feature that helps new vapers kick out serious clouds with confidence.
Voopoo DRAG M100S Mod
Best for User Settings
Features We Love
Settings Selecta: Four different user modes to choose between
TC FTW: Temperature control modes for various RDA materials
Power Saver: Eco mode preserves your external battery charge
Cloud kits aren’t just great for big plumes; they also tend to feature a greater number of user modes to help you customise your vaping experience to suit your specific requirements.
The Voopoo DRAG M100S Mod is the latest piece of kit from the highly-praised DRAG series. A single-18650 device with a 100W max output, the M100S has a tidy and unassuming build with more than a few tricks up its sleeve.
While I tend to lean on simple variable wattage modes – which the M100S has as the default setting – I did find the optional Smart mode prevented me from burning out my coils with inappropriate wattage settings. And when I really wanted to let it rip, I stuck an RDA on top and switched over to temperature control mode for maximum cloudage.
Finally, a new Eco mode ensured that my battery lasted as long as possible, which helped me on a day when I was travelling and wasn’t going to be able to charge my battery for hours.
The Voopoo DRAG M100S Mod is a Swiss Army Vape, loaded with all the features you could ever need, as well as boasting a 100W max that outpaces many other single-battery mods, which can often only manage an 80W max.
Pros
- Features a variety of user-modes
- Fully equipped for DIY coil building
- GENE.TT 2.0 chipset provides power protection
Cons
- Buttons are a bit wiggly
- Underwhelming visual design
Voopoo Argus XT Mod
Best for Portability
Features We Love
Carry Out: Small for travel and features a lanyard ring for ease-of-reach
Take It In: High-def 0.96” display screen
Built For War: Strong construction protects against all forms of damage
Cloud mods can often be a little bulky and unwieldy, but Voopoo has managed to pull off a fine balancing act with the Argus XT Mod, which provides both robust power, along with a build construction that you can take anywhere you go.
Compatible with both 18650 and 21700 batteries, the Argus XT has everything you want from a cloud mod; 100W max outputs, Smart modes for coil preservation, and TC modes for RDA users. All of this is ensconced within a pocketable mod that can withstand some reasonable knocks thanks to IP68 damage protections.
And if you’d like to always have your vape mod within immediate reach, the Argus XT comes fitted with a lanyard ring so you can wear it as a necklace, transforming it into an attractive and uber-powerful vaping accessory.
The health of my coils and batteries was provided constant oversight from the onboard GENE.TT 2.0 chipset, which let me kick out big cloud production without having to worry about any technical issues.
The chunky and unmissable lock switch also ensured I wouldn’t accidentally fire the mod while carrying it in my pocket, making the Argus XT one of the best cloudy vape mods for travelling cloud chasers.
Pros
- Wearable with the use of a lanyard ring
- Snug and easily pocketed
- Boost mode provides greater cloud production
Cons
- Very heavy build design
- Hard edges can be slightly uncomfortable
Vaporesso LUXE XR Max
Best for Budget
Features We Love
Value Vaping: Very affordable sub-ohm pod kit
Easy Peasy: Simple to use and fun to master
Pocket Plumes: Similar in size dimensions to a smart-phone
As you’ll see in this list, many sub-ohm mods and kits can run a little pricey. Vaporesso, however, is keen to ensure that everyone has the chance to engage in some serious cloud production. The budget-friendly LUXE XR Max Pod Kit provides you with intense cloud generation for less than £35!
Designed for portability and easy use, the Vaporesso LUXE XR Max vape kit is the upgraded version of the LUXE and LUXE XR units, introducing manually adjustable wattage with a max output of 80W. While not quite as high as some kits we’ll look at today, it’s powerful enough for clouds and moderate enough to ensure the internal 2800mAh battery goes the distance.
While I prefer the value that comes from changing Vaporesso GTX Coils, the LUXE XR Max is compatible with the original disposable LUXE Pods, great if you tend to go with the more fuss-free, convenient option. The pods can also be turned in place to change airflow intensity, which can also be adjusted manually with the side slider.
If you’re looking to start kicking out big clouds with a small budget, you can’t do better than the Vaporesso LUXE XR Max.
Pros
- Portable sub-ohm kit
- Very affordable price
- Simple to use
Cons
- Lack of advanced features
- Plastic parts can be fragile
FAQ
How Do You Get Big Clouds?
Big cloud generation is achieved by a few different factors. You need a powerful mod with high wattage outputs, with a tank equipped with low resistance coils. On top of that, you need to ensure you’re using e-liquid with a VG content of at LEAST 70%, though 80% will be better for bigger clouds. For more detailed info on big cloud production, check out our ultimate guide to cloud chasing.
Here are some useful tips for cloud chasing:
Does More Airflow Mean Bigger Clouds?
Generally, yes! The wider your adjustable airflow inlets, the more high-VG vapour you’ll be inhaling from your low-resistance coils.
A tighter, smaller airflow on your vape kit results in a more concentrated ‘beam’ of flavour, but you’ll produce a much smaller degree of clouds.
What Is the Best Vape Juice Ratio for Clouds?
To produce massive clouds, the best e-liquid will have very high VG contents, at least 70VG for halfway respectable thick clouds.Sub-ohm vaping does tend to eat through your e-liquid a lot faster, but if you browse our best shortfill vape juice selection, you’ll find dozens of options that put a big, long-lasting bottle of e-liquid in your hands.
What Is the Best Ohm for Cloud Chasing?
Ideally, you want your sub-ohm tanks coil’s ohm rating to be as low as possible. Anything less than 0.8ohms is technically considered sub-ohm these days, but try to be on the lookout for coils with meshed heating elements with extremely low ohmages, such as 0.2ohms or 0.15ohms.
And sometimes the lowest ohmages are those found on DIY coils such as those used in RDA and RDTA setups, which tend to offer better cloud production.
