10 Best Vape Coils for Clouds, Flavour, & Life span In 2023

With thousands of vape coils to choose from, we know that it can be hard to tell these little steel cylinders apart! Not to mention coils are extremely varied; some have high resistances (indicated with a number printed on the side followed by a Ω symbol) while others are intended for moderate, mouth-to-lung vaping. There are coils with low resistances that are meant for the production of huge clouds with the use of high VG liquids and high wattage outputs.

The variation doesn’t end there, either! Some coils will have alternative heating materials such as titanium or ceramic, and others still will feature novel wicking materials such as wood pulp and tea tree fibres, though the majority utilise organic cotton.

So, today, armed with many years of experience with vape products (including coils, of course), we’ll take a closer look at 10 of what we feel are the best vape coils. If you’re more interested in looking at tanks to vape from, check out our roundup of the best vape tanks, but those interested in coils should read on below!

The Best Vape Coils Overall Are The: Voopoo PnP Coils

Push-It

Introduce easy push-to-fit installation

The Voopoo PnP Coil series broke a lot of conventions when it first debuted. Sub-ohm POD COILS? Push-to-fit!? Ceramic and mesh interiors?!

Yet each one of these aspects has gone on to receive widespread adoption by the vape industry at large, firmly securing Voopoo a place in the halls of vaping’s valkyries.

Some coils suit any vaping style with ohmages ranging from the ultra-ultra-low 0.15ohms (60-80W) to a moderate and MTL-specific 1.2ohms (10-15W). Chances are a PnP Pod owner will be more interested in big clouds, but it’s always great to have options.

And suppose you’ve ever wondered why you no longer have to screw in most coils. In that case, you can thank Voopoo for adopting push-to-fit as a standard method across all their PnP Pod offerings. In doing so, they made coil changes a much more streamlined affair for everyone.

The Voopoo PnP Coil series is MIST’s favourite coil range, and we’re confident that one puff is all it’ll take to bring you onside.

Wicked Wicks: Flax cotton coils used for improved taste
Weaveless: Non-woven wicks ensure greater flavour and vapour
Restrict: Designed for DTL, but 1.2ohm coils are suitable for RDL

While the majority of coils utilise a simple organic cotton as wicking material, the Vaporesso GTX40 GO Coils take things to a whole new level of flavour-carrying efficiency.

Compatible with several Vaporesso kits, such as the LUXE XR Pods and GTX GO 40 Pods, the coils achieve their uniquely flavoursome outputs with the help of the materials used to soak up your e-liquid.

Flax cotton is far more durable and long-lasting than traditional cotton, meaning your coils will last longer even at the high wattages you can achieve with 0.3ohm outputs.

Another benefit comes from the flax plant’s natural resistance to pests, meaning that no pesticides or other nasty chemicals are required for cultivation.

Finally, Vaporesso uses a non-woven production method that carries flavour far more efficiently, making the GTX40 GO Coils some of the tastiest and most durable around.

Pros

  • Top-quality wick materials used for improved flavour
  • Solid vapour production
  • Decent range of ohmages

Cons

  • 1.2ohm coil is not the best MTL unit
  • Mesh coils could be of greater quality

The Classics: Long-beloved coil series
High Noohm: 1.8ohms, one of the highest resistances available
Old-School Screw: Very secure screw-in installation methods

The Aspire Nautilus Coil range is the oldest featured in this list, launched ten years ago.

Despite being a little longer in the tooth than others featured in this list, there’s an excellent reason Aspire tanks utilise these coils to this day.
The Nautilus Coils are some of the most reliable and satisfying MTL coils. While other manufacturers race towards the lowest ohmages possible, the Nautilus Coils offer resistances as high as 1.8ohms, a high-resistance coil perfect for tight mouth-to-lung draws.

There’s even a 0.4ohm coil for when you fancy giving the old sub-ohm plumes a try, making the Nautilus range remarkably versatile. However, it should be noted that it’s very much an MTL range with only one sub-ohm unit available.

It might bear old design hallmarks such as screw-in installation, but the Aspire Nautilus Coil range has more than earned its place in the halls of vaping legend.

Pros

  • Rich MTL flavours
  • Ohms ranging between 0.4 – 1.8ohms
  • Long-lasting coils that endure up to a month

Cons

  • 0.4ohm coil is not the best sub-ohm option
  • Push-to-fit may make screw-in obsolete

Lush Lattice: Interior mesh lattice atomises evenly with great flavour
Big O: Held firmly in place by thick rubber O-rings
Quatro Coils: Four distinct sub-ohm resistances to choose between

Mesh coil elements are quickly becoming an industry-standard feature for many vape coils. And we believe the meshes used in Vaporesso GTi Coils are some of the best you can get.

An intricate mesh lattice is utilised, which not only increases the surface area of the element but also increases e-liquid absorption rates. It also promotes a much richer, more defined clarity of flavour.

Thankfully, the GTi Coils take advantage of all modern coil design aspects, such as simple push-to-fit installation and secure positioning with the help of sturdy rubber o-rings.

The wicking elements have also been carefully arranged to increase the soak rate and reduce the likelihood of dry spots and burnouts, allowing you to get the most out of your GTi Coils.

The Vaporesso GTi Coils are, in our view, some of the best meshed sub-ohm coils around and make the iTank 2 a must-have for any flavour-conscious sub-ohm vape fan.

Pros

  • Mesh lattice ensures rapid absorption
  • Thick O-rings keep the coil firmly placed
  • Effectively eliminates burnouts

Cons

  • High power only, not even an RDL option
  • Slightly restrictive wattage allowances

Tasty AF: Incredibly flavoursome MTL vape coils
Puff Away: 0.6ohm and 1.0ohm available for MTL and RDL uses
Vert Vaping: Vertical mesh position promotes even atomisation for maximum taste

While huge clouds are nice, it’s flavour that fuels the passion of many vapers. In our view, the Aspire Flexus AF series coils provide the richest flavour possible on every inhale.

Similar in design to the Caliburn G2 Coils, the Flexus AF Coils are thin and easily inserted into Flexis Q Replacement Pods and other Aspire Flexus kits that all utilise the Flexus AF range.

The coils are available in both 0.6 ohms and 1.0 ohms. While 0.6ohm is technically a lower resistance, we recommend sticking to thinner 50/50 vape juices as the wicking ports on the coil are a bit too narrow to allow for much thick cloud e-liquid.

Meshes are utilised to great effect, with the Flexis AF Coils delivering incredibly clear flavours that the vast majority of MTL coils are simply unable to compete with.

The vertical build of the coil ensures a fast pathway from atomisation to inhalation, with little to no time for the pure flavour of your e-liquid to be adulterated in any way. This makes the Aspire Flexus AF Coil range the best coils for flavour.

Pros

  • Possibly the tastiest MTL coils available
  • Built for use with the excellent Flexus pod vape range
  • Specifically designed to draw the utmost flavour from 50/50 and nic salt e-liquid

Cons

  • Only compatible with Flexus kits
  • No serious DTL options are available

NiCe Coils: NiChrome materials used instead of traditional kanthal
E-Liquid Saver: Can be safely changed with a half-full tank
Collars and Cuffs: Held securely in place by a sturdy coil collar

99% of pre-built coils comprise a kanthal element ensconced within organic cotton. The Aspire Atlantis SE Coil range stands out for instead opting to utilise NiChrome vape coil material.

DIY coil builders have long prized NiChrome due to its malleable nature, high electrical resistance potential, and resistance to oxidisation at high temperatures.

This means you can put your Atlantis SE Coils through severe stress without worrying about early burnout.

And you’ll be thankful for that capacity, considering that the Atlantis SE range runs the coil resistance gamut of 0.18ohm – 0.3ohm. This will let you kick out massive vapour production without worrying about your coil health.

It can be a little tricky to figure out how to fit the Atlantis SE Coils with the Atlantis GT Tank’s coil collar the first time, but this is more of a tank issue that the coils shouldn’t bear the blame for.

So, if you want coils that go the DTL distance, grab an Aspire Atlantis GT Tank and fall in love with the Atlantis SE Coil range.

Pros

  • Powerful sub-ohm coils
  • Unique use of nichrome coils
  • Secure fittings

Cons

  • No MTL options
  • Some may be confused by coil installation

Easy Mode: Compatible with the Vaperz Cloud Dreadnought V2 RTA
Fandom: Fan-shaped mesh elements funnel vapour upwards
Wood Win: 30% wood pulp used for wicking elements

HorizonTech tanks are some of the best in the cloudy kingdoms. Built for excessive plumes that carry great flavour, the heart of each tank is a HorizonTech coil, and the Falcon 2 replacement coils are some of their best.

The Falcon 2 Coils only come in a single resistance, a shame, but 0.14ohms has a cloud potential that few other coils can rival. In this instance, variety isn’t a spice we’re interested in.

The coils have a uniquely fan-shaped conical mesh weave within, which funnels the vapour up to the drip tip faster and prevents e-liquid condensation within the tank, ensuring you get all your e-liquid.

Novel wicks are also utilised, blending the standard organic cotton and 30% tree pulp contents, resulting in longer-lasting coils.

But a secret aspect to the Falcon 2 Coils is their bizarre but very welcome compatibility with the Vaperz Cloud Dreadnought V2 RTA! Just pop out the DIY coils deck, and you’ll find the Falcon 2 Coils instantly elevate it amongst sub-ohm tanks!

Pros

  • Intricately shaped mesh heat elements
  • Can be fitted in the Dreadnought V2 RTA
  • Longer-lasting wood pulp-wicking materials

Cons

  • Only one ohmage to choose
  • Pulp slightly affects the flavour

Features We Love

Big Puffer: Huge cloud potential
Ready To Go: Utilises the same easy installations as the PnP Coils
Flash Heat: Designed to increase heat faster for rapid vapour production

Voopoo’s TPP Coil series followed from the PnP range, intended for use in slightly larger vape pods for dedicated DTL vaping.

The TPP Coils aren’t compatible with PnP Pods, as they’ve been built slightly wider than their older counterparts. While this may be irritating, the increased interior surface area of the TPP Coils results in an increasing heating speed.

Faster heating results in faster vapourisation and more vapour! With 0.2ohm and 0.15ohm units available, it’s a range only intended for DTL use and achieves it with stunning confidence.

The push-to-fit installation method returns here to great effect, meaning you don’t have to bother with awkward unscrewings when you need a fresh coil.

We recommend gently priming the Voopoo TPP Coils, as while they are designed for convenient use, you will want to ensure the high wattages don’t burn the cotton you’ll be putting them through.

Pros

  • Very cloudy sub-ohm coils
  • Quick heat buildup results in more vapour
  • Very affordably priced

Cons

  • Not compatible with PnP Pods / Tanks
  • Not many tanks fit the TPP Coils

Go The Distance: Long-lasting kanthal coils
MTL FTW: Primarily intended for MTL vaping
Cloud Options: A 0.48ohm coil is available for RDL vaping

Innokin is a manufacturer prized for its simple designs and user-friendly products. While their starter kits and tanks are superb for any new vaper, a big part of what makes kits like the Coolfire Z60 vape kit so satisfying is the excellent coil quality.

The Innokin Z Coils – sometimes referred to as the Zlide or Zenith Coils – were some of the first push-to-fit coils in the industry. Small yet effective, the Z Coils use traditional kanthal heating elements and organic cotton wicks.

There are three ohmages available – 0.48ohms, 0.8ohms and 1.6ohms – which opens the doors to most styles of vaping. It should be noted, though, that the Z Coils are primarily intended for thin e-liquid and MTL vaping.

Due to both the top-quality construction and the relatively low wattage range you’ll be putting the Z Coils through, they tend to have some of the longest-lasting vape coils.

It’s not unusual to get a solid month of use out of a Z Coil, making them one of the best value long-lasting vape coils around.

Pros

  • Simple but durable coil range
  • PLEX3D design ensures rich, instant flavour
  • Inexpensive range of coils

Cons

  • A small range of ohmages
  • Not really intended for direct-to-lung vaping

KanKan: Kanthal mesh coils for rapid absorption and rich tastes
Just Right: Simple coil fitting by aligning the flat part of the coil base
Pro Puffs: Pro-FOCS designs promote intense flavour-carrying

Kanthal has long been the standard heating material used in vape coils, and we feel that the Uwell Caliburn G2 Coils put it to the best use.

The G2 Coils are remarkably thin, possibly the smallest coils we’ve encountered so far, and fit easily into the Caliburn G2 Pods. Aligning the coils is easy thanks to a slightly flat portion of the coil’s base, which lines up with the edge of the pod base.

The Caliburn G2 Coils provide a deeply satisfying MTL inhale, with a mesh interior which rapidly absorbs e-liquid and atomises it without imparting any foul flavour upon your favourite e-liquid.

While the wicking ports on the coil are a little too thin to allow for priming, you likely won’t be doing much of that as the coils are only intended for high-PG e-liquid. The higher resistance of 1.2 ohms helps confirm which kind of vaping the mesh coils are intended for.

The Uwell Caliburn G2 Coils are some of the best kanthal vape coils available and make using the Caliburn G2 vape kit a deeply satisfying vaping experience.

Pros

  • Tasty MTL coils
  • Uwell’s Pro-FOCS technology promotes richer flavours
  • Very simple to install

Cons

  • Only one ohmage to choose from
  • Flooded coils are hard to clean

Vape Coil FAQ

What is a ‘Vape Coil’?

Vape coil is a term that describes the atomisation unit within your vape tank or pod. Usually, a small metal cylinder contains a steel heating element and a wicking material.
For a more in-depth explanation, check out our vape coil guide.

How Long Does A Coil Last?

How long do vape coils last? On average, vape coils last between 2-4 weeks. There are a number of factors that can affect your overall vape coil lifespan.

Check the link above to get a better idea of which vape coils last the longest.

Do All Vapes Use the Same Coils?

No, vapes do not use the same coils. Vape coil compatibility will depend on the vape pod kit that you use. For instance, if you have Geekvape, you can’t use Innokin coils and vice-versa. There are, however, freak cases like Falcon 2 Coils working in the Dreadnought V2 RTA. But generally, coils will have proprietary fittings that only connect with the intended tanks.

Most vape coil manufacturers would rather you stick to their products rather than generic alternatives, naturally. As a result, there’s little point in trying to fit an unintended coil into a given vape tank or pod.
