This year sees the release of the Argus Z2, and Voopoo has tried something interesting here, in my opinion. The kit follows on simply enough from the no-thrills Argus Z released last year, but Voopoo is striking the disposable ban iron while it’s hot and marketing the Z2 as a great first refillable kit for those used to single-use devices.
In the process, Voopoo has retained the Z series’ simplistic design but also added some upgrades that make it, in some respects, the most advanced MTL Argus kit yet! Will their device stand out or fall into the stampede of simple kits being released in the lead-up to the June 2025 disposable ban? Read on to find out more!

MIST’s Verdict
Review Summary: The Voopoo Argus Z2 is a good kit for a new vaper or a vaper coming off disposables and seeking a simple-to-use buttonless MTL kit. But anyone with long-term vaping experience is likely to find the Argus Z2 a bit dull and frustrating.
Review Disclosure: Voopoo supplied me with four Argus Z2 Kits in different colours for this review. They arrived in a special box and are not taken from packaged kits per se, but they are TPD-compliant and will reflect the kits on sale in the United Kingdom. All my thoughts and opinions about the Argus Z2 are impartial and entirely my own.

Build Quality
Score: 3.8 out of 5
The Argus Z2’s casing is primarily made of durable, lightweight plastic. The plastic has a slight grain effect that provides a satisfying grip and creates an eye-catching holographic effect that shimmers in the light.

The kit is almost entirely featureless, with only a power indication LED and a small Voopoo logo to show which face is the front. The USB-C charging port is on one side of the kit, and airflow is handled by two-minute holes drilled into the side of the pod well.
The pods themselves are held in place magnetically in characteristic Argus fashion. While new pods are available for the Argus Z2, my sample units arrived with classic Argus MTL pods installed, which still work well.
A small rubber patch on the device’s base allows you to stand upright without scuffing your furnishings or dinging the kit.

I’ve taken 1.2 points off the Argus Z2’s design, which may feel brutal. But the truth is that it’s just a bit dull. Simple kits are simple kits, and that’s fine, but no airflow slider?
While I like a lightweight build, the Argus Z2 goes too far. The plastic body feels a bit ‘eggshell’ in your hand. Its fragile spirit makes it hard to really relax and puff away—for me, at least.
Performance
Score: 4 out of 5

In terms of performance, the Argus Z2 does a fine job, providing a buttonless draw-activated experience. There’s no power adjustment, and the kit relies on the internal chipset to detect and set the appropriate wattage output. For example, a 1.2ohm pod will fire at around 10W, whereas a 0.7ohm pod will fire at around 18W.
The lack of airflow control is an issue when using the lower resistance pods, as a more expansive puff would have been delightful for high-power MTL vaping.
I found infrequent issues with the auto-draw on one of the Argus Z2 kits I’ve used this week. The battery would be charged, and the pod firmly in place, but occasionally, a puff would result in nothing happening. This wasn’t an issue I experienced across multiple kits, but it was annoying enough to stop me from using one of them.
The Argus Z2 performs mostly fine, but the limited-use functions soured me a little.
Ease of Use
Score: 5 out of 5
Now, here’s where the Argus Z2 shines. The device is absolutely foolproof, with such simple functionality that there really isn’t anything you can get wrong besides accidentally trying to puff from an empty pod.
While its lack of features might frustrate some vapers (like me), newcomers to the world of refillable vapes will find it convenient and easy to use. It’s also being released at an interesting time, with disposables being banned in only a few months and many disposable vape users now needing a simple and easy way to transition to refillable vape kits.
If that’s what Voopoo is thinking, and I think it is, then it’s a tactical masterstroke.
Battery Life
Score: 3.8 out of 5
Now… this is a tricky one. When I saw ‘1500mAh’, it was like a heaven-sent gift. That much battery in such a light device? Is it the biggest MTL Argus battery ever in this kit?
Voopoo claims the kit will provide up to 5 days of use. The device gave me around 3 days of use, but I’m a heavy vape user.
And the charge… ah, this is annoying. The charge is very slow, which is a great shame at a time when powerful devices can often get fully charged in 30-40 minutes, whereas the Argus Z2 can take over an hour to get from fully depleted to fully charged.
Flavour Output
Score: 4.5 out of 5
While the battery might be of uncertain quality, the Argus pods continue to impress with their rich flavour, comfortable build, and easy side-filling method. I was a bit disappointed my kits didn’t arrive with the new Argus pods, as I’m very keen to try the Icosm Code 2.0 designs, but I’ll have to be patient.
Summary
The Voopoo Argus Z2 is a good kit for a new vaper or a vaper coming off disposables and seeking a simple-to-use buttonless MTL kit. But anyone with long-term vaping experience is likely to find the Argus Z2 a bit dull and frustrating. A good starter kit.
The MIST Favourite Feature:
- Scratchy Matte: The matte grain effect on the device’s plastic surface is great for both grip and stylish visuals, keeping the kit in your palm and other people’s eyes on your kit.
