Today we’re going to be taking a look at SMOK’s new RPM40, and if you glanced at the title of this review I think you already know how deeply impressed we are with this pod vape system!
Without further ado, let’s take a look and review the new SMOK device which seems set to become the new apex of pod systems – the RPM40!

Design & Build Quality
The RPM40 is as stylish as it is versatile. The unit is physically delightful – ergonomic and grippable without uncomfortable sharp angles, the whole unit weighs in at a comfortable 99 grams and its ~measurements~ are 25-by-25-by-99mm, making it veritably pocket-size.
We also see a welcome return of a Nord innovation; the duckbill mouthpiece!
Features & Functions
From adjustable wattage to menu colour changes, there’s a lot to discover with the RPM40!
This vape kit comes with a fast charging feature, meaning you will get back up to full within two hours. SMOK are also big on safety so have included high temperature protection, short circuit protection, low voltage protection and an 8-second cut off mechanism to prevent it going off unintended in a bag or tight set of trousers!
For a great DTL set up we’re just going to set it to a good wattage for this coil. SMOK recommend that the best results from the RPM 0.4ohm mesh coil will come from a 25W setting.
We find that one of the best ways to use this amazing kit as a MTL device is to load it up with one of the highly recommended Nord 1.4ohm coils and kick the wattage down to around 16-18 watts – this provides a brilliant mouth to lung experience, conserves and extends battery power to the optimum!
There are however a number of alternatives besides the coils included with the kit; the RPM coil range alone has six different iterations for different needs, including an RBA(!!!) for those who want to officiate an unholy union between pod-vaping and coil-building.
How to Use

Just five clicks and we’re good to go! You can see here that the screen is a joy to behold. Yes, you heard me right – it’s a pod system with a screen, and a pretty fancy one at that!
The high-def screen displays everything from wattage to voltage, ohmage to puff-count, giving you a seriously in-depth rundown of your currently vaping stats. Also, a purely cosmetic but neat feature – colour options!
BUT don’t let it’s petite form fool you for a second, the RPM40 hides an impressive 1500mAh battery and has an adjustable wattage range of 1-to-40 Watts, granting you full customisation over your vape and providing adequate power for either style of pod or coil.
Pods & Coils
Changing the coils is as simple on the RPM pod as it is on the Nord; pull, push, plug, play!
Simply locate the soft silicone hatch on the side of any of the pods, pop it open and fill-’er-up!
A handy tip here is to ensure that you feel the silicone hatch pop back closed once your finished filling. A few times for me it hadn’t actually gone all the way back in but this is something you will get used to checking after one or two fills!
We do recommend that you allow the new coil to sit in the e-liquid for a good 10 minutes before you try firing it up so as to prevent ‘burnouts’ or ‘dry fires’.
You can of course try priming the coils by gently painting the exposed cottons with some e-liquid, but (and this is just my personal opinion) I feel that sometimes priming may shave off a few minutes of wait-time but it often also costs you a couple days of the coil’s lifespan. I’ve got nothing to show you as evidence for this, just an observation I’ve made with a few of my regular sub-ohm lords.
Not only do the new RPM40 0.4ohm coils provide you with the nice and thick, corporeal cloud you would expect, the flavour is damn near unmatched. Really comes through, and thanks to the mesh coil design there’s no need to wait for arbitrary moments between puffs, rewicking is damn near instantaneous with the superior absorption provided with the mesh design!
Performance
The RPM40 is a versatile machine, capable of both moderate thin-liquid MTL puffs and big stonking clouds with the help of the RPM pods and coils and the 40W power potential.
1500mAh is incredibly decent in terms of battery capacity when you consider the small size of the unit.
The flavour of the Nord and RPM coils cannot be overstated, and the latter coil range produces a fantastically thick and corporeal cloud, though the Nord coils will certainly suffice for those with more of an interest in MTL vaping.
Verdict
SMOK’s RPM40 does everything you could ask from a pod vape system and then a little more too! With battery capacity and wattage for any occasion along with SMOK’s fantastic Nord and RPM coil range, you’ve got a device for any instance that’s as portable and stylish as it is satisfying! We’re certain you’ll love the RPM40.
