I recently reviewed the Rexa Pro and was impressed by its sophisticated smartphone-like suite of features. But today, I’m looking at a somewhat different and more down-to-earth beast — the Rexa S. Let’s see whether the more streamlined design of the Rexa S proves to be a more enticing option for those who are less impressed by glitzy features.

MIST’s Verdict
Review Summary: The Rexa S is a brilliant little kit. Not too simple, not too saucy. It has a great battery, an excellent interface, and fantastic flavour.
Review Disclosure: FreeMax provided me with the Rexa S. However, my views, thoughts, and opinions are impartial.

Build Quality
Score: 4.4 out of 5

The Rexa S has a lovely build design. A thin and familiar slab of durable acrylics, it lacks the weight of the Rexa Pro but has almost the exact dimensions, thankfully lacking that chunkier face that the Pro needed for the screen.
The face of the Rexa S has a ‘hidden screen’ that shines bright LEDs through the front plastic layer, a simple effect that nonetheless looks very chic and space-age. The ‘screen’ does a fine job of displaying the set wattage, battery levels, and puff count.
The lack of an obvious border to the screen creates an interesting trompe-l’œil effect, giving it a slight ‘infinite canvas’ feel that adds to the sci-fi aspect I mentioned earlier. It feels worth pointing out that not even the Rexa Pro manages that!
The rest of the device is relatively unassuming, a simple plastic casing with a lone firing button on the side. The other side features the USB-C charging port, and the back has the sliding airflow control in the centre.

One of the standout aspects of the Rexa S is the Duomax pod series, which has been unleashed alongside the Rexa series. Utilising advanced multiple mesh cores with larger heating areas and enhanced stability, they convey rich flavours and last for a long time.
Also, and this may seem minor, but I deal with a LOT of pods, and this stood out: the refill hatch is behind a sliding plastic shield rather than a rubber stopper or under a snap-off lid. It feels fancy as heck, and that’s what Freemax intended all along.
Performance
Score: 4.6 out of 5

The Rexa S performs very well! It’s not too advanced, not too simple, just right for many. The device features both button and draw activation, both of which react very quickly to being pressed or puffed through, respectively.
Changing the power output is a simple matter of rapidly tapping the firing button a few times; a different series of taps will display the device’s puff count. It’s a far cry from the outright software suite that came installed on the Rexa Pro, but as I mentioned then, I don’t know how many users will find those features fun and how many will find them frustrating.
Those looking for a middle path of easy use but snazzy presentation will be very satisfied with this piece of kit.
Ease of Use
Score: 4.7 out of 5
I can’t fault the Rexa S in terms of simplicity, not in any way I can think of! The kit is straightforward to use, featuring a single-button draw activation and easy power control. You don’t even have to worry about changing the coils, as the pods are entirely disposable.
All these small aspects contribute to near-universal usability. If you have full use of your hands, arms and eyes, you should have no problems using the Rexa S whatsoever.
Battery Life
Score: 4.7 out of 5

1300mAh is reasonably ample for a device of this size. Notably, it features the same battery capacity as the more advanced Rexa Pro. One advantage of a stripped-down device with fewer flashy features is that the battery will certainly last longer.
The kit sadly doesn’t share the 2A charge speeds of the Pro, instead settling for 1A. But this isn’t slow by any means, and your kit won’t take an excessive amount of time to charge if you forget to plug it in.
Flavour Output
Score: 4.7 out of 5
The flavour given off by the Duomax pods is delicious, and try as I might, I wasn’t able to detect anything ‘off’ about the flavour, which isn’t uncommon after they’ve passed through the medium of coil soaking materials.
So, congratulations to Freemax for a fantastic new pod and coil range to coincide with their new kit range!
Summary
The Rexa S is a brilliant little kit. Not too simple, not too saucy. It has a great battery, an excellent interface, and fantastic flavour. While it lacks some of the Rexa Pro and Smart special features, it’s a wonderful kit that won’t intimidate anyone.
The MIST Favourite Feature:
- Love LCD: The display system is GORGEOUS. At times, I prefer it to the advanced touch screens on the Pro and the Smart Rexa kits!
