Aiden from MIST's holding the FreeMax Rexa Pro for a review

FreeMax Rexa Pro Pod Kit Review

Suddenly! Without warning! FREEMAX ATTACKS! Yes, friends, Freemax are back at it with a new range of devices: the Rexa series. I’m no stranger to Freema, but it seems they’ve been busy in their skunkworks R&D blacksite because, to me at least, these kits came out of nowhere!

This week, I’ve been getting to grips with one of the two more advanced Rexa devices, the Rexa Pro. Without wishing to spoil anything early, this is one of the most advanced vape interfaces I’ve ever operated! But let’s not spoil everything in the intro; read on for the MIST review of the new Freemax Rexa Pro Pod Kit.

MIST's overall score for the FreeMax Rexa Pro

Review Summary: What more can I say? The Freemax Rexa Pro didn’t just come out of nowhere; it also completely blew me away. The sheer scale of advanced settings is a little awe-inspiring, particularly considering the device’s small size.

Review disclosure: Freemax supplied me with the Rexa Pro unit I’ve been using for this review. While generous, this free device will not influence my review; all the thoughts and opinions stated are entirely my own.

Build Quality

Score: 4.8 out of 5

Aiden from MIST's holding the FreeMax Rexa Pro for a review

The Rexa Pro is deceptive in terms of build and appearance. And while that may sound ominous, I promise it’s leading up to the compliment.

The Rexa Pro is very lightweight and fits comfortably into the hand, even with the raised screen section that prevents it from lying flat on its side (but why would you, anyway?).

The front of the device is taken up by the large, long 2.51″ screen that doubles as a touch interface. One side features a firing button and charge port, while the other has a screen-locking switch and an airflow slider.

The back of the device has a few small holes in the centre that broadcast audio, a feature we’ll discuss more in the next segment.

The pods are one of the loveliest things about the Rexa Pro and the entire Rexa series. The Duomax pods, like many other great pods, use a complex arrangement of coil structures to extract the best flavour possible.

I particularly liked the hard plastic refill slider on the pod; maybe I’m just tired of rubber hatches, but it speaks to an overall design that could be extended to the whole Rexa range.

Performance

Score: 5 out of 5

Here’s where we get to the real meat and potatoes of the review. The Rexa Pro can, from a distance, look disarmingly simple. But a brief flick on its touch screen and it will quickly reveal how advanced the device is.

Where to start? Well… with a quick swipe of your finger, the Rexa Pro’s screen scrolls down to reveal a menu, in which you’ll find these functions listed: Mode, Theme, Music, Sound, Puff and Set.

  • ‘Mode’ lets you choose between raw power and smart coil protection, which is always a lovely thing to offer the user. So far, it’s pretty standard.

  • ‘Theme’ gives you a choice of five different colourful background art for your screen. That’s more than is usually offered!

  • ‘Music’ is… So, Music allows you to control the playlist you currently have playing through the speaker on the back of your device. The Rexa Pro connects to your computer or phone through Bluetooth and then acts as a speaker. Did anyone ask for this? No. Is it incredible? Oh yessir.
  • ‘Sound’ lets you set the audio sound effect that plays when you inhale, with options like Rocket and Water if you want your vape pen to sound like you’re taking a bong hit.

  • ‘Puff’ lets you check your puff count and puff monitor across longer periods, as well as clearing the count

  • ‘Set’ reveals yet another menu! This one lets you set the time on your device and select screen animations that play when you fire the kit.

Now, when you consider that most vapes that feature menus usually limit the options to Smart Mode On/Off and Reset Puff Counter, the Rexa Pro delivers a frankly insane amount of customisable features.

That’s kind of the key point of the Rexa Pro. While all the Rexa vapes do a great job (and the Rexa Smart, which I’ll be reviewing soon, does even more than the Pro), customisation is a hidden aspect of what makes a vape enjoyable to use.

I often say, “Vaping is never one size fits all.” It’s how I knew disposables wouldn’t last for long. People can take or leave a uniform vape that does a simple job. However, a vape that you can modify to suit you and your style better is a device that grows with you. It evolves with your usage. And that’s a kit you don’t put down. That’s the kit that keeps you off the cigarettes. Because it’s yours, you made it that way.

I’m leaning into schmaltzy territory now, but I felt it was worth pointing out. At its base level, the Rexa Pro offers 5-30W of power output and can be activated both with the side button or through puffing. These simple facts alone make it a decent kit. The stuff mentioned above transforms it into something legendary.

Ease of Use

Score: 4.5 out of 5

Now, I can appreciate that the above section may be a little…intimidating, perhaps, particularly to anyone interested in a simpler device. And hey, Freemax has you covered there with simpler Rexa kits like the Nano and the S.

But, if you’ll indulge me for a moment, I will argue in favour of the Rexa Pro. Yes, there are more features than you can shake a stick at. No, you don’t necessarily have to use them.

If you wanted, you could easily use the Rexa Pro in Smart mode with auto-draw; at that point, refilling is the only thing that differentiates it from a disposable. While the other features are present, you don’t have to touch them. But they’re present if you ever feel like giving your vape kit a little personal touch.

Battery Life

Score: 4.7 out of 5

1300mAh is impressive when considering the small size of the device. Usually, a device of this scale can, at most, manage a 1500mAh cell, so they came very close.

That being said, consider switching off some of the animations and sound effects if you’ve got a big day ahead, as they may drain the battery a little faster. However, you have rapid 2A charging speeds to quickly get your kit back on its feet.

Flavour Output

Score: 4.7 out of 5

The Duomax pods are EXCEPTIONAL. The flavour produced by the unique coils within is rich and delicious, with no impurities I can detect. The kit doesn’t have any modes that actively improve flavour, which is a rare and not always popular feature.

While I don’t have a great deal to say except “tastes great!” and this may be more at home in the build quality section, I once again have to compliment Duomax pods—not just for their brilliant internals but also for how comfortable they are to use and vape from.

Summary

What more can I say? The Freemax Rexa Pro didn’t just come out of nowhere; it also completely blew me away. The sheer scale of advanced settings is a little awe-inspiring, particularly considering the device’s small size.

While the extra features may intimidate, they aren’t essential if you don’t want to use them. But boy, howdy, are they fun!

The MIST Favourite Feature:

  • Touch Screen: Many vapes have touch screens, but I’ve never used one that is so quick and responsive. It feels like a smartphone, and the long screen design is satisfying to use.
