What Is a Shortfill?

A shortfill is a 0 nicotine vape juice that comes in a bottle that's deliberately under-filled, leaving space for you to add a nicotine shot. This format allows you to enjoy larger bottles of e-liquid while complying with TPD regulations. The empty space is specifically calculated to accommodate nicotine shots, making it easy to achieve your desired nicotine strength.

What’s the Difference Between MTL and DTL Shortfills?

MTL (Mouth-to-Lung) and DTL (Direct-to-Lung) shortfills are designed for different vaping styles:

MTL Shortfills:

  • Higher PG content (typically 50/50 or 60/40 VG/PG)
  • Stronger flavour concentration
  • Ideal for pod systems and starter kits
  • Better throat hit
  • Suitable for lower-power devices

DTL Shortfills:

  • Higher VG content (typically 70/30 or 80/20 VG/PG)
  • Produces larger clouds
  • Designed for sub-ohm tanks and higher-power devices
  • Smoother vaping experience
  • Better cloud production

How Do I Choose the Right Size Shortfill?

The size you choose (50ml, 100ml, or 200ml) depends on:

  • Your daily vaping consumption
  • How frequently you want to purchase
  • Your preferred nicotine strength
  • Your budget

Larger bottles (100ml, 200ml) are ideal for regular vapers who know their preferred flavour, while 50ml bottles are perfect for trying new flavours or occasional vapers.

Is 0 nicotine Vape Safe?

0 nicotine vape, like shortfills, are still made with PG and VG (two major components of an e-liquid). They do not contain nicotine, but since they are 'shortfilled,' there is enough room for you to add nicotine shots.

How Do I Calculate the Final Nicotine Strength of My Shortfill?

To calculate your final nicotine strength, consider both the shortfill size and the nicotine shot strength. Here's a simple guide:

50ml Shortfill + 10ml 18mg shot = 3mg strength
100ml Shortfill + 2x 10ml 18mg shots = 3mg strength
200ml Shortfill + 4x 10ml 18mg shots = 3mg strength

Note: These calculations assume using 18mg/ml nicotine shots. Always check the specific mixing guidelines provided with your shortfill.

You can use MIST's shortfill calculator

Do I Need to Shake My Shortfill After Adding Nicotine?

Yes, it's essential to shake your shortfill thoroughly after adding nicotine shots. Shake the bottle vigorously for at least 30 seconds to ensure:

  • Even distribution of nicotine
  • Proper mixing of flavourings
  • Consistent PG/VG ratio throughout
  • Best possible flavour
  • Uniform nicotine strength in every puff
