What Are 50/50 E-liquids?

50/50 e-liquids consist of 50% propylene glycol (PG) and 50% vegetable glycerin (VG); hence the name “50/50.” But what does 50/50 precisely mean in terms of flavour and cloud production? This balanced ratio offers the perfect middle ground, providing moderate vapor production and a satisfying throat hit, and is ideal for mouth-to-lung (MTL) vaping and works exceptionally well in pod systems, starter kits, and lower-powered devices. 

As you might already know, there are different ratios in e-liquids. Regardless of what blend you prefer, you will always find PG and VG in the ingredients. (Of course, the nic strength as well).

When the PG (the ingredient responsible for flavour carrying and throat hit) and the VG (responsible for cloud production, smoothness, and sweetness) are an equal mix, you’ll get a versatile e-liquid that offers good flavour, low to medium throat hit, and minimal vapour production (like a cigarette’s smoke).

What’s the Difference Between 70/30 and 50/50 Vape Juice?

The main difference between a 70/30 vape juice and a 50/50 e-liquid is the VG content. With a higher VG content (70 VG), you have a more subtle flavour output. You also get more vapour but a milder throat hit.

On the other hand, 50/50 vape juice delivers more flavour but low to medium throat hit and vapour. 

What’s the Difference Between Nic Salts and Regular (Freebase) Nicotine in 50/50 Juice?

Can You Get 50/50 Shortfills?

Yes, you can get 50/50 shortfills. There is a misconception that shortfills are all high VG, but that's not always the case. For example, our MIST MTL range and our pastry range Sweet Thief are shortfills with a 50/50 composition. 

What Coil Is Best for 50/50 Juice?

You should use a 0.8ohm – 1.8ohm coil with 50/50 juice because a high-resistance coil will only atomise moderate vapour clouds, perfectly suiting the MTL vaping style.

Using a sub-ohm coil – meaning a coil with a resistance of less than 0.8ohms – will result in an unpleasantly intense inhale.

What Wattage Is Best for 50/50 Vape Juice?

The best wattage for 50/50 e-liquid is within the range of 9W – 16W, as these are standard outputs for MTL coils. Using a higher wattage than this will likely burn out your MTL coil, and a lower wattage won’t generate a satisfying amount of vapour.  

Does 50/50 Vape Juice Taste Better?

Generally speaking, 50/50 juice does often have more flavour than high-VG. This is because PG acts as a better neutral carrier for the flavour concentrates, which do not ‘blossom’ across VG quite as well.

Something must also be said for the concentrated hit of a tight 50/50 e-liquid draw. High-VG inhales produce a lot more vapour, spreading the flavourings across a much larger amount of cloud.

Many MTL e-liquids, such as those in the MIST Originals range, are produced at a high-PG ratio of 70 PG / 30 VG. But is 50/50 or 70/30 better in terms of flavour? There isn’t much difference, as both 50/50 and 70/30 tend to atomise into the same volume.

Is 50/50 Vape Juice Strong?

A 50/50 juice is strong when compared to most high-VG e-liquids due to what is usually a much higher potential nicotine strength. 50/50 e-liquid also tends to have a bit more of a throat hit, making high-VG vape juices generally easier to inhale.

Is 50/50 OK for Sub Ohm?

We don't recommend using 50/50 vape juice in a sub-ohm device because 50/50 e-liquid's consistency is thin. Moreover, sub-ohm coils' cotton are not designed to absorb such consistency, so, in return, you will get a leaky vape tank.

If your sub-ohm tank doesn't leak and you vape the 50/50 vape juice, you will experience a rough throat hit. The type of vape juice we recommend to use with sub-ohm tanks and kits is high-VG shortfills. 

What Nicotine Strength Should I Choose?

Your ideal nicotine strength depends on your previous smoking habits:

• Heavy smokers (20+ per day): 18-20mg

• Medium smokers (10-20 per day): 12-18mg

• Light smokers (10 or less per day): 3-6mg

• Social smokers: 0-3mg

Note that nic salts might feel smoother at higher strengths compared to freebase nicotine. All our products comply with TPD regulations, meaning maximum strength is 20mg/ml.
