OXVA XLIM SQ Pro 2 Review

The first OXVA XLIM SQ Pro was pretty darn special, in my view, to the extent that I gave it two awards in 2023—Best MTL Vape Kit and Best Refillable Pod Kit. To me, it was the moment OXVA went from plucky underdogs to the new hotness.

Well, butter my biscuit and call me a critic because OXVA have FINALLY released the XLIM SQ Pro 2 and I’m the lucky boy who gets to play with one for a week to review it! While I will go into detail in this review, those looking for a quick tl;dr should listen up when I say that this is one of the most customisable YET easy-to-use MTL vapes I’ve ever encountered.

MIST's overall score for the OXVA XLIM SQ PRO 2

MIST’s Verdict

Build Quality5
Performance5
Ease of Use4.9
Battery Life5
Flavour Output4.8

Review Summary: I have not before encountered an MTL kit with such advanced customisation and functions. Yet, it’s also extremely easy to use, and the extra features are never forced on you but instead kept in easily accessible menus for you to explore at your convenience.

Review Disclosure: OXVA supplied me with a sample device for writing this review. I want to emphasise that the thoughts and opinions in the review below are entirely my own and are not influenced by the manufacturer or any outside party.

What’s New?

In terms of what sets the SQ Pro 2 apart from the original, there’s a 400mAh increase in battery capacity, far more durable construction, and a mind-blowing amount of device customisation that the original didn’t come close to.

This is not just a slight update, this is an entirely new system (which luckily still uses XLIM Cartridges!)

Packaging and Labels

My OXVA XLIM SQ Pro 2 arrived in a black cardboard box covered in a black cardboard sleeve.

  • The front of the sleeve has a big red OXVA logo at the top, and a plastic window shows the device within, a brown unit in this instance.
  • To the right of the window is a graphic highlighting the kit’s touch controls, while at the bottom is an XLIM SQ Pro 2 logo.
  • One side of the sleeve lists features such as the 1600mAh battery and intelligent puff diary, while the other side indicates which pods come included with this package (0.6ohm and 0.8ohm, respectively). An authenticity QR code is also present on this side.
  • The back of the sleeve features a blurb about the device itself—a rare packaging feature but one I strongly approve of—and a contents list. There is also contact information for Zhenzhen Future Tech Co., LTD.

This kit version isn’t TPD-compliant, so there’s no big monochrome health warning, but UK versions will feature said warning.

When the sleeve is removed, we see the kit held firmly in place with sturdy black foam on the left and a black cardboard box on the right containing the user manuals, a lanyard necklace, and the spare 0.8 ohm pod.

The 0.6 ohm pod is already placed in the XLIM SQ Pro 2 device, with a sticker on the base to prevent electrical connection.

Build Quality

Score: 5 out of 5

In terms of build quality, the OXVA XLIM SQ Pro 2 is a masterpiece.

I don’t say that lightly, as most vapes have at least *something* annoying about the build. Not this kit, though. I have been desperately trying to find something wrong with how it’s put together, and I can’t do it. OXVA genuinely knocked it out of the park here.

The small slab build is palm-friendly and not too light. That’s a pro, not a con, to me. There’s something very satisfying and comforting about a small, dense piece of electronics with no creaks or clear weak spots. The device feels like it’s been built to last, which is a lot more than I can say for some other MTL kits.

The version of the kit I’m using is made from a durable zinc alloy, and while it doesn’t feature on my unit, OXVA’s website shows at least two versions with an artificial leather exterior. The kit weighs around 114g, which again isn’t lightweight by any means, but I like the heft.

The size is fairly small, measuring at 93.4mm(H) x 48mm(W) x 20.01mm(D). It’s slightly larger than a flip-top lighter, so it can easily fit in any pocket.

One side has a circular button for menu selections, and just above the button, there’s a small loop for the lanyard to go into.

The other side of the kit has a rather ample airflow slider at the top and a USB-C charging port at the base.

The circular touch screen is GORGEOUS with vibrant colours and crisp animations. There are several screen customisations to explore, but we’ll cover those in the performance section of this review.

Performance

Score: 5 out of 5

I’m going to go into detail here, but a quick teasing summary would be that the OXVA XLIM SQ Pro 2 Kit is a significant step above most other vape kits in terms of functionality.

The simplicity of picking it up and using it might convince you that it’s a simple device. After all, the draw-activation is sensitive and fast, and the smart functionality ensures your pod will be in a safe region of power output. This is a nice, simple, stable use function. Lovely!

But we aren’t satisfied with a simple puff and go, are we? What other features does this device offer? Oh, well, I don’t know. How about…

  • A touch-controlled wattage output SLIDER that utilises smart mode for coil protection.
  • An in-built clock and calendar that you can manually program.
  • A multitude of menu language options to select from.
  • An in-built TORCH (okay, the torch function just illuminates the screen, but it’s useful!)
  • Several screen themes, each with a different vibe to suit a different vaper
  • You can pair Several puffing animations with your chosen screen theme
  • A stopwatch function
  • A power-saving Eco mode that you can use to stretch the already ample battery further
  • A 30-day puff count diary you can use to track your usage

The touch screen allows for navigation. All of this is in a vape smaller than your palm. I have used mobile phones that were less sophisticated than the OXVA XLIM SQ Pro 2.

I gave an unreserved 5 out of 5 for the device’s functionality. Absolutely brilliant.

Ease of Use

Score: 4.9 out of 5

Now, all those functions mentioned above might make the less experienced vapers feel nervous. But you can relax because the vast majority of what I mentioned above is optional customisation.

Suppose you want to enjoy a simple 5- 30W MTL pod kit with protective smart mode features. Great! It serves that job perfectly and never requires you to use the more advanced aspects of the device.

The OXVA XLIM SQ Pro 2 is as advanced as you want it to be and easy enough for a total beginner to master quickly.

Battery Life

Score: 5 out of 5

The previous SQ Pro’s 1200mAh battery capacity has been extended by 400mAh, allowing you to enjoy a sizable 1600mAh capacity, which can easily last for days between charges.

Even better, OXVA has even installed an optional Eco mode for when you forget to plug your device in and need to use it just a little longer than usual.

You can also adjust the screen brightness and animation sequences, giving you more options than ever to reduce your power use.

Flavour Output

Score: 4.8 out of 5

The XLIM Cartridges from OXVA still produce magnificently clear tastes, allowing you to enjoy the full depth of your e-liquid flavours without any impurities or impact on the flavour caused by the coil materials.

Refilling is a dream, too, thanks to the side-mounted refill hatch, which you can reach without taking the pod out of the kit. I deducted .2 because the OXVA’s NeXLIM pods are more flavourful.

Summary

The OXVA XLIM SQ Pro 2 Kit is a marvel, a wonder, and potentially a revolutionary device. As mentioned, I have not before encountered an MTL kit with such advanced customisation and functions. Yet, it’s also extremely easy to use, and the extra features are never forced on you but instead kept in easily accessible menus for you to explore at your convenience.

It’s powerful, long-lasting, advanced, user-friendly, and super portable. I would be astonished if the XLIM SQ Pro 2 doesn’t take at least one award from MIST this year!

The MIST Favourite Feature:

  • Touch Screen: Touch screens are usually gigantic and power-sapping, so the XLIM SQ Pro 2’s smart-watch-like circular screen is a unique feature that’s really intuitive to use and breathes new life into navigating your device fuss-free.
