Top 10 Best Mouth To Lung (MTL Vape Tanks – UK Market Guide

Best MTL Vape Tanks

Today we’re going to be taking a look at the best mouth to lung vape tanks (MTL tanks), of which there are many to choose from.

“MTL” is industry shorthand for “mouth to lung” – simply meaning the vapour is to be inhaled in much the same way as a cigarette or drink through a straw.

The opposite of this is known as DTL, “direct to lung”.

1. Innokin Zlide

Score – 10/10

With all the features you could ever need, the Innokin Zlide stands tall as one of the best mouth to lung vape tanks on the market!

Innokin Zlide MTL tank
Our best MTL vape tank!

Pros

  • Child proof
  • Lockable sliding top fill
  • Simple disassembly

Cons

  • None!

What do we think is the best MTL tank on the market in the UK? Well, it’s the Innokin Zlide hands down.

The Zlide is an upgraded followup to the Innokin Zenith, and delivers all the cleaning access of the previous unit along with intuitive lock functions and unprecedented flavour, thanks to the new PLEX3D coil system.

The tank features a sliding top fill latch, locked firmly in place by the mouthpiece, under which you’ll find a solid, durable application hole, a replacement for which you’ll find included in the spare parts.

The coils are changed in the usual Innokin way; unscrewing the base and pulling the old one free. The extended chimney provides enough space for a half full tank to undergo a coil change without losing any e-liquid, a welcome new feature.

So a feature you’d never anticipate from a leak proof tank is total disassembly! The Zlide is easily taken apart in totality to allow for thorough cleaning and part replacement, glass being easily slid in and out and included among the many spare parts.

Innokin also used the Zlide to premier their PLEX3D coil, which features an innovative mesh design and utilises wood pulp fibres for greater absorbency.

2. Innokin T18-II

Score – 6/10

Innokin’s Endura line has long been a mainstay of any reasonable vape emporium, and the T18-II is the latest iteration of a tank and coil system beloved by many.

t18 2
A reliable workhorse of a tank

Pros

  • Magnetic dust cap
  • Highly available coils

Cons

  • No airflow control

The T18-II takes the Innokin T18E coil, registering at 1.5ohms and sold at every vape shop I’ve ever set foot in – UK and abroad.

Durable, easily refilled and recoiled and now featuring a magnetic dust-cap in order to avoid puffing on a mouthful of pocket lint.

A reliable workhorse which sits neatly atop any mod to deliver consistently satisfying puffs.

3. Aspire CE5-S

Score – 6/10

All the benefits of a modern MTL tank but with the classic tapered mouthpiece and tight draw that was so satisfying all those years ago.

Aspire CE5
An old-school classic

Pros

  • Classic design
  • Tapered driptip
  • Changeable coils

Cons

  • Tight draw

Back to the old school! Working in vape for the better part of a decade, we here at MIST remember the early days; puffing on a 650mAh stick battery topped with a screw-on tank, a puff-piper strolling down the street and catching the attention of smokers in my vaporous wake.

Maybe I’m romanticising but the truth is those old screw-on tanks were great and Aspire’s CE5-S is the best of the bunch; steel casing and changeable Aspire BVC coils in a variety of resistances give this tank all the benefits of a modern MTL but with the classic tapered mouthpiece and tight draw that was so satisfying all those years ago.

4. Eleaf GS Air 2

Score – 7/10

The GS Air 2 is a sleek little vape built from steel and glass; slim and tall, it sits neatly above any battery with modest style.

Eleaf-GS tank
Sleek design and versatile coils

Pros

  • Airflow control
  • Highly compatible coils

Cons

  • Somewhat fragile

The tank boasts a changeable airflow – rarer in MTL tanks than in DTL.

One of the best selling points of the GS Air 2 is the coil system; the Eleaf GS Replacement Coils are not only commonly available but can be utilised in a number of other units, making the GS Air 2 an unexpectedly versatile tank, capable of fitting low-resistance sub-ohm coils in the event you fancy a puff on the plumy side.

5. Innokin T20-S

Score – 7/10

Another mainstay of MTL starter kits, the Innokin T20-S is quite similar to the T18-II but with greater functionality.

t20 s
Innokin reliability, now with a range of coils!

Pros

  • Great flavour
  • Highly available coils

Cons

  • No airflow control

Two coils are available in the Prism-S series, a traditional 1.5ohm model and a rather special 0.8ohm variant as well, giving your MTL tank just a little bit more ‘oomph’ without ever straying into anti-social levels of cloud production.

Another difference between the T20-S and the T18-II is that the T20-S features a plastic mouthpiece; may seem like a small thing but in the event of droppage that plastic head is a little less likely to get dinged out of shape, which could result in a frustrating cross-thread situation.

6. Vaporesso VM22

Score – 7/10

The Vaporesso VM22 is a clever reworking of the Veco design, now featuring a protective steel casing and easy disassembly for cleaning along with brand new coils which eschew cotton for highly absorbent tea fibers!

VM SOlo 22
Steel protection and good coils for CBD

Pros

  • Solid built
  • Adaptable coils

Cons

  • Heavy

Ah Vaporesso, you surprised us all. Initially hitting the market with a branding that seemed eerily reminiscent of a coffee company, Vaporesso blew all of us away with the Veco and NRG tanks, and they’re back with a vengeance!

The alternative ceramic coil which comes included is highly effective at vaping nic-salts and CBD e-liquids efficiently, making this a great choice for those whose vaping requirements go outside traditional nicotine relief.

7. Vaporesso Guardian

Score – 8/10

The Vaporesso Guardian is similar to the VM22 but with a bit more of a focus on durability and leakproofing. The tank is superbly durable, as the name suggests, with steel encasing the pyrex glass tube.

Vaporesso GUARDIAN TANK
Defend your tank from leaks and breaks

Pros

  • Top airflow
  • Solid build
  • Unique coils

Cons

  • Heavy

Top airflow means that like the Veco, you won’t have to worry about leaks coming through the base when you approach the end of a coil’s usefulness, making this one of the best mouth to lung vape tanks for cleanliness and spill prevention.

Vaporesso are releasing a new line of coils for use in the Guardian, 0.5ohm and 0.6ohm variants being included in the kit.

The Guardian also comes with two different mouthpieces, one for MTL and the other for DTL use, which the Vaporesso Guardian is more than capable of delivering should the mood take you.

8. Aspire Nautilus GT

Score – 8/10

Made as part of a joint project between Aspire and Taifun, the Nautilus GT hopes to absolutely perfect the Nautilus tank series that has been an MTL mainstay since the old days.

Nautilus GT
A brand new generation of Nautilus tank

Pros

  • Airflow control
  • Easy disassembly
  • Knurled metal for easy grip

Cons

  • Heavy
  • Large

Whereas past iterations of the Nautilus tank have run into issues of leaking or discomfort, the GT aims to address each of these issues.

The tank comes wrapped in durable steel with replaceable pyrex glass. Five distinct airflow settings surround the base, easily gripped and switched thanks to the knurled metal ring, a staple of Taifun design.

This knurling is repeated at the top of the unit for the unscrewable top fill, with refill ports lining the top cap which also holds the coil in place.

The device continues to utilise the widely celebrated Nautilus coil system, the unit coming packaged with a Nautilus 2S 0.7ohm mesh coil pre-installed and a Nautilus BVC 1.6ohm variant included.

The Nautilus GT is durable, easily cleaned, easily filled and uses coils which are easily acquired. An MTL tank for absolutely any occasion!

9. Cthulhu Mod Hastur MTL RTA Mini

Score – 9/10

One of the best mouth to lung vape tanks for those seeking a rewarding new hobby.

w271 tank
A comprehensive two-post RTA with MTL in mind

Pros

  • Two post RTA
  • Incredible flavour

Cons

  • Best suited to enthusiasts

Cthulhu Mod generally tend to stick to intense RDA/RTA systems and setups, so we were of course very excited to get a closer look at their new Hastur RTA (rebuildable-tank-atomiser) which is designed for MTL puffs and thinner juices.

The interior of the tank reveals a two-post arrangement with three distinct airflow settings, easily changed via the ring at the tank’s base. The Hastur RTA supports both mouth to lung use and a restricted level of direct lung inhalation, as to be expected from an RTA.

Glass is easily replaced and the whole RTA can be quickly taken apart for thorough cleaning.

Cthulhu Mod were quite keen to produce a smaller RTA in order to provide a much greater depth of flavour and they were successful; NOTHING tastes better than a freshly wound rebuildable coil stuffed with fresh cottons.

10. Aspire Tigon

Score – 9/10

The Aspire Tigon introduces several unique qualities not yet seen before in an Aspire tank.

Aspire Tigon
Unique and e-liquid saving coil system

Pros

  • Leak proof
  • Unique coil system
  • Wick ports close during coil change

Cons

  • None!

The Tigon tank brings Aspire screaming back into the game with a whole new tank and coil system. Eager not to just be known as “The Nautilus company”.

“Leak proof” is the name of the game with the Tigon, with the tank boasting both child-proof seals AND an ingenious design which closes the wicking ports when removing a coil.

This allows you to change coils without sacrificing a tank full of e-liquid; a VERY welcome feature!

Add to all that six distinct airflow settings and an MTL coil selection that permits some moderate DTL action and you’ve got a versatile unit on your hands!
