FreeMax Rexa Smart Pod Vape Review

You are about to read a review of the Freemax Rexa Smart pod vape kit, and I’m going to spoil the review right away: this is the most sophisticated and advanced vape kit I have ever used. So, that’s quite an opening, huh?

Freemax’s Rexa range has recently hit the shelves, the Rexa Smart has left me feeling thunderstruck in terms of sheer customisation. But does it run the risk of being so advanced as to be incomprehensible to many vapers? That’s precisely what I’m going to be talking about in this review for MIST.

Build Quality

Score: 4.8 out of 5

The Rexa Smart has a little more chunk to it than the other Rexa devices, but there’s a pretty good battery-based reason for that. The device is made from zinc alloy, a popular vape building material that strikes a balance between lightness and durability. Clearly needed here as the Rexa Smart still has a heft to it, but it’s a comforting one.

The vape is built in a square slab shape, with the Duomax pod protruding from one corner of the top. To the right of the pod, there is a lanyard ring. The face of the device shows the 2.01” HD touchscreen, which you’ll be using quite a lot. To the left of the screen is a switch that turns off the touch function, located just below the airflow slider.

One side of the kit is featureless, while the other side features the firing button. The back of the kit features the device logo and an audio output speaker. The USB-C port is on the base of the kit.

The pods, to get back to them, are brilliant. Firm plastic builds with unique sliding refill ports and cutting-edge Duomax designs, resulting in dual-core coils with a greater heating surface. There’s a LOT more to talk about in terms of the Rexa Smart’s design, and we’ll go over that further in the Performance section.

So… gosh, where to start? At first glance, it would be very easy to assume the Rexa Smart is a slightly bloated MTL pod kit. And to puff from it, you’d think you were correct in your first impressions. On the surface, the Rexa Smart operates much like other Rexa kits. It has a 5-30W wattage output and optional Smart functionality, which can take the stress off your hands.

So, what hidden aspects of the device am I hinting towards? Frankly, there isn’t time to go into detail on everyone, so let’s summarise:

  • An advanced software suite that operates and feels like using a smartphone
  • 10 different customisable screen-themes that can be paired with three firing animations and three firing sound effects. Yes, sound effects. You read correctly.
  • A comprehensive puff tracker that doesn’t just display your puff count but also lists frequency of use over days, weeks, and months.
  • A series of unlockable puff achievements.
  • A fully-functional clock and settable calendar.
  • Three distinct alarms can be set throughout the day to alert you loudly.
  • A calculator that looks suspiciously similar to the calculator app featured in a popular line of smartphones.
  • A stopwatch.
  • Bluetooth connectivity functionality allows you to stream music through the speaker on the back of your vape kit. Because it’s 2025 and the future is RIGHT NOW.

So, take a little look through that list, then reread it. Then remember that we aren’t talking about a phone, a laptop, or a smart watch – we’re talking about a vape kit that you use to puff on e-liquid. And it performs all these functions with stunning confidence.

It’s difficult for me to state just how impressed I’ve been by the functionality of the Rexa Smart kit. All I can really say is that when I spent a day using this device, I finally realised I was living in the future. While you definitely don’t *need* all the extra features, what they achieve is a kind of synthesis between device and user.

Are the Features Even Worth It?

Let me explain. One of the things that makes vaping more effective than pouches and patches is the option to personalise your vaping device. You can pick the colour. The flavour of e-liquid. The nicotine strength. These elements make it ‘yours’ in a way that cigarettes aren’t.

But the Rexa Smart goes further. By letting you select the background, the animation, the sound effects, synch your music to it, organise the calendar, set your wake-up alarms, by providing you with the means to do all these things the Rexa Smart doesn’t just become totally customised to you, it becomes a device that *grows* with you.

Your backgrounds will change with the times, as will your flavours and strengths. The puff-count achievement system shows how far you’ve come, and you can view detailed analytics of your usage through the puff tracker.

Freemax have, to put it bluntly, created a vape kit that doubles as a lifestyle accessory. And in my opinion, they’re the first to achieve this.

Ease of Use

Score: 4.5 out of 5

NOW, the section above may have already frightened a few readers away from this device. And I think that’s a shame, as you don’t technically need to use all the extra features!

The Rexa Smart operates perfectly well as a simple draw-activated, Smart-equipped pod kit. However, as much as I’d like to spread the Rexa Smart word far and wide, I must admit that I’ve tried every Rexa device now, and those looking for a simpler version of the kit would be well served by the Rexa SQ and Rexa Nano devices.

However, as mentioned in the Performance section, I believe there’s real value in the extra features as aspects that will make you feel more connected to your vape kit, which in turn makes it more effective as a method to help you stop smoking.

Battery Life

Score: 4.8 out of 5

The battery life on the Rexa Smart is fantastic, like every other part of it. The weight we mentioned at the beginning makes more sense when you learn that this small and compact device contains a whopping 1600mAh battery. This is far larger than most pod kits offer, allowing you to enjoy the 30W maximum.

Admittedly, some of the extra features on the device, such as animations and sound effects, are likely to drain the charge faster, so it might be worth switching those off if you intend to use the kit for RDL primarily. However, the Rexa Smart allows you to deactivate most features that you don’t wish to use.

Flavour Output

Score: 4.8 out of 5

Finally, the Duomax pods. There are no features on the vape itself that improve flavour, but Freemax’s new pod line does an excellent job all by itself. The Duomax pods utilise a robust and intricate mesh network to amplify both flavour and cloud generation, while lasting longer than most other coils.

Admittedly, I’ve only had a week to get to grips with the Rexas, but I can say with certainty that in that week, there’s been absolutely zero dip in flavour from the pods I’ve been using, so I feel Freemax’s new pods are a hit! I’m looking forward to seeing the coil designs in other devices!

Summary

The Rexa Smart is a marvel, a piece of space-age technology that has come screaming out of the future to lead us to a better tomorrow. Hyperbolic? Maybe, but it’s not every day that you encounter a vape kit that rivals a smartphone in terms of usefulness and customizability.

The MIST Favourite Feature:

  • Touch Screen: Navigating the menus of the device is a dream thanks to the 2.01” touch screen, which displays everything in crisp and colourful high-definition.
